PSYONIC Debuts the First-Ever Dexterous Hand Integration on the Universal Robots Gen 7 Platform
PSYONIC, UNIVERSAL ROBOTS, PRESS RELEASE - Sept. 15, 2026
PSYONIC and Universal Robots bring touch-sensing dexterity and streamlined PolyScope X integration to UR’s next-generation collaborative robotics platform.
SAN DIEGO, CA – September 15, 2026 – PSYONIC, a leader in dexterous manipulation, has collaborated with Universal Robots (UR) to integrate its touch-sensing Ability Hand with UR’s new Gen 7 platform, including its g-Series collaborative robots and PolyScope X software. The integration brings advanced dexterous manipulation and tactile sensing to the UR ecosystem while significantly simplifying deployment.
Developed in collaboration with Universal Robots, the integration leverages PSYONIC’s new UR Integration Kit and PolyScope X URCap software, allowing the Ability Hand to work seamlessly with UR’s new g-Series robots.
“Sophisticated automation shouldn’t be synonymous with difficult deployment,” said Dr. Aadeel Akhtar, Founder and CEO of PSYONIC. “By collaborating with Universal Robots to integrate our touch-sensing technology with the Gen 7 platform, we’re giving manufacturers and researchers a much simpler path to advanced, adaptive manipulation.”
Advanced Dexterity and Tactile Sensing
Built with six independently controlled motors and 30 integrated touch sensors, the Ability Hand enables human-like interaction with the physical world. Its compliant fingers enable adaptive grasping of varied objects without tool changes, while real-time tactile sensing provides critical feedback for delicate or complex tasks.
The integration takes advantage of the g-Series tool flange connectivity, reducing cabling complexity and simplifying workcell design. Through PSYONIC’s PolyScope X URCap, users can program the hand’s grips and positions directly from the teach pendant, accelerating the path from installation to production.
Built for Universal Robots Gen 7
Universal Robots’ Gen 7 platform is built around PolyScope X and expanded connectivity between robots, software, sensors, vision systems, and end effectors. That architecture gives PSYONIC a streamlined foundation for bringing the Ability Hand’s dexterous manipulation and tactile sensing capabilities into collaborative automation applications.
“What our UR+ partners are doing with this launch is exactly the kind of proof point that demonstrates the formative power of UR's open platform and quality ecosystem. They are taking advantage of the advanced connectivity on our Gen 7 robot platform to build easy-to-integrate products that can run on the floor today,” said Chris Savoia, Global Head of UR+ Ecosystem.
For PSYONIC, the collaboration is another step toward making advanced dexterous manipulation easier to deploy in real-world automation. By combining the Ability Hand with UR’s Gen 7 platform, manufacturers and researchers can add touch-sensing dexterous manipulation without the integration complexity traditionally associated with advanced robotic hands.
The Ability Hand is also available through the Universal Robots Marketplace.
